Last weekend I helped my friend Whitney clear out her garage. She has two kids ten years apart, so she has everything from bassinets to bicycles and skateboards to stuffed animals in storage. With no plans for another child, it's time to clear out the gently used, but no longer useful items. This job took two days, but the dramatic before and after pictures were worth it! Here is the before:
Most of the boxes were filled with kids' clothes, toys, books, and stuffed animals. Many of these items we were able to donate, or give away to Whitney's friends with new babies. We found some items that actually belonged to other people, who were able to come over and collect them. Here is a progress shot:
Of course there were the usual items that belonged in the garage, such as Christmas decorations, tools, gardening and car care tools, camping stuff, etc. These items will remain in the garage, and needed a permanent home there. Some shelves were already in place in the garage, but as Whitney uses her space, we may need to install more permanent storage.
Whitney also found some treasures, like a quilt her grandmother made, photos of her children, even a set of silver cutlery she didn't know she owned.
